I extend you a warm welcome to the Hampton Roads area. Enjoyed by its residents for its great diversity, vibrancy, beauty, history, naturalness and friendliness, Hampton Roads is an easy place to be. Rich in history, brimming with natural resources and full of economic, cultural and recreational opportunity, Hampton Roads is a diverse, friendly, and easy-to-know community comprised of nine cities and two counties.

Situated in southeastern Virginia where the Chesapeake Bay meets the Atlantic Ocean, Hampton Roads is divided between the "Southside" - Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Smithfield, Suffolk and Virginia Beach; and the "Peninsula" - Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, Williamsburg, James City County and York County. Our regional Multi-Listing-Service (MLS) covers the entire area, so Wes can help you anywhere!

Within this beautiful region, where all four season take their place on the weather map, nearly any lifestyle is possible.

If, for example, you enjoy living by the water, for recreation or employment, there is the Chesapeake Bay, many rivers, countless lakes and inlets, and of course, the Atlantic Ocean. Want an easy pace and feel close to America's beginning? That is here, too, in Yorktown, Williamsburg and James City County, to name a few. Our regional Multiple Listing Service covers the entire area, so Wes can help you anywhere!

Cultural events and museums, sporting leagues, pop entertainment, outdoor festivals and recreation all contribute to this wonderfully unique place that 1.5 million people call home. Plus, with the countless tourist attractions here including the beach, Colonial Williamsburg and Busch Gardens, it's easy to entertain guests when they visit!

We hope you will want to experience for yourself the wonders, the pleasantness and the ever-evolving Hampton Roads.

Hampton

The variety of family living, from beach front to well-established neighborhoods with tree - lined streets, makes Hampton an attractive place to call home. Gateway 2000 recently chose Hampton to locate their 2nd largest assembly facility. Many active and retired military families settle here because of the comfortable pace and beautiful surroundings. Hampton is home to NASA and Langley Air Force Base. Residents enjoy boating from the many local marinas, the Virginia Air and Space Center's IMAX films, picnics or nature walks at Sandy Bottom Nature Park and swimming or wind surfing at Buckroe Beach.

As Jamestown offered its many enticements to the settlers of the new world, so does James City County. Home to the Ball Metal Container Beverage Group and the Owens-Brockway Glass Containers, the county shares close business, economic and historical ties to Williamsburg. The two cities work hand-in-hand to provide an excellent school system, public libraries, and municipal offices. Rapid economic growth and proximity to other local cities, make James City County an ideal location for working families looking for a great place to raise children.

Poquoson

Poquoson is an Indian word for "low, flat land". The names fits this small quiet city on the Chesapeake Bay, but it does not begin to describe the qualities of this place that has such a strong hold on it natives. It has a small-town feel with a low crime rate. No matter where you go in town, you will meet someone that you know.

Poquoson claims not only the continued tradition of watermen working off its shores, but also a high number of white-collar professionals. The city's median income is the highest in Hampton Roads.

Population: 11,300
Area Size:14.7 square miles

Williamsburg

With eighteenth century colonial shops and taverns harmoniously placed near contemporary shopping and dining, Williamsburg offers amenities that appeal to a variety of tastes and pleasures. More than the restored colonial area and the College of William and Mary, Williamsburg offers new business opportunities, a growing population and exciting recreational activities that draw many families and retirees. Several communities boast waterfront homes and world-class golf courses, while others offer the beauty and simplicity of countryside living with quick and easy access to outlet malls, as well as upscale shopping facilities. From Busch Garden to the Williamsburg Winery, there is something for everyone.

Newport News

Neighborhoods tend to be expansive, friendly and full of trees. Home to Newport News Shipbuilding, Hampton Roads' largest private employer, many other "support" business are located nearby-- Canon Copiers and Siemens Auotmotive to mention a few. The area's nautical history comes alive at The Mariners' Museum, while the city offers visitors and residents the variety of the Virginia Living Museum, Newport News Park and the Peninsula Fine Arts Center, among other activities.

While the 18th Century restored homes and historic Yorktown Battlefield are captivating, lush wooded lots and quiet pace are reasons most residents live in York County. Retirees and professionals alike enjoy the quaint, small-town atmosphere that contributes to the high of life. Excellent schools, strong neighborhoods and acres of undeveloped farm lands have been attracting more young families to the county for the last few years. In fact, the county became one of the fastest growing areas in Virginia in the 1990's.

Real Estate Tips
Buyers Remorse >Closing Your House

If you are selling your house, you may have to jump through a few hoops between the time you and the buyer reach an agreement and the time the money and deed change hands. The structural inspector usually finds a few things that need to be repaired or replaced, and the termite inspection may reveal the presence of unwanted pests. Most buyers will also have a list of items that they want the seller to fix.

The ideal is to have your home as perfect condition as possible in time for the walk-through inspection prior to closing. If you have agreed to complete repairs on your home, it is a good idea to get an early start on the work so there will be plenty of time to correct any "surprises" that may be found. Call several companies to get competitive bids for the work that needs to be done or ask your real estate agent for recommendations.

Presenting the buyers with a clean, well-maintained home will make the process a lot easier for them, especially if they get a case of last-minute jitters.
